Using waste materials is integral to my practice. I am increasingly aware of how runaway capitalism is affecting our planet. We already have enough. I predominantly use materials that would otherwise be thrown away, I find discarded, or already own as a stance against consumerism and the associated waste.
My hands need to be involved in creative activity to quieten a busy mind. I stitch, twine, hook, twist, knit, weave, gather, thread, and join to create, shape and manipulate materials.
My outcomes are inspired by the benefits of spending time in nature - biomorphic sculptural pieces featuring organic, repetitive shapes and patterns. I aim to spark joy and evoke a sense of connection to the natural world.
