I chose clay as my means of expression because it is extremely malleable, and over time I’ve become interested in those liminal areas where joining different clays together creates interesting effects.  Pushing the materials to their limit has become an area of fascination for me - heavily grogged clay, smooth stoneware and porcelain - each combination throws up different reactions, opening up new opportunities.

I am also experimenting with the effects of multiple oxides under a special glaze as well as smoke-firing followed by a raku-firing on the same piece.  This leads to a multi-layered surface, unlike the often opaque surfaces of work that has been fired by raku only.
