Elaine is a mixed-media artist whose main practice is Ceramics. She studied Ceramics and Photography to degree level at Farnham.

Since retiring from teaching creative arts she is a full time Artist. Her Figurative Sculptures represent strength and vulnerability. She explores how proximity to spaces and environments affect her subject’s posture, personality and presence.

These considerations and her engagement with Women’s mythos, politics and status, shape the direction of her work. Elaine’s practice is rooted in her fascination with people, with her strong desire to celebrate the Power and status of Women and their experiences; to take up space. Her work explores Memories & Mythos, Identity & Spaces; celebrating Individuality and stories.

Each piece is created using hand-building techniques working in a slow mindful way. She creates Figurative Sculptures, Goddess totems, large Narrative Sgraffito and Decorative, sculptural vessels, working from sketches and annotated memories and experiences of her subjects.
