My passion for creating with glass emerged after decades of working with wood. The vibrancy of coloured glass has been a revelation and it’s inspired me to make evocative and uplifting new work.
Other inspiration has included the highly coloured textiles made by Kaffe Fassett, Zaha Hadid’s contemporary architecture and the landscape photographs of Charlie Waite. I’m also intrigued and influenced by utilitarian objects such as the chrome headlights of a classic car for the sheer joy of their shape and line.
I employ meticulous precision cutting skills (honed from decades of woodwork experience) to make uniquely pattered pieces of art. In the example above, I used over 1000 individual, precisely produced, segments of glass. Then, by using a highly unusual construction method, rarely seen in Britain, I was able to make art which is simultaneously very controlled and excitingly innovative.
My work has been purchased for collections in France and the USA. Norfolk based, I exhibit regularly in East Anglia including a recent hugely successful (both in terms of positive feedback/reviews and sales) exhibition at the modern art gallery (The Hostry) at Norwich Cathedral.
My colour combinations, technical mastery and professional approach to contemporary fused glass has resulted in a body of work within which each piece is highly individual and innovative, but which retains an attraction and fascination which is intrinsic to the material.
